Money

Are we too focused on the fruit of the tree?

In a world focused so intensely on money I feel as if I am hanging upside down. I’m intensely focused on the root of the tree I am hanging from whilst the majority are looking up at the fruit growing above.

There is such a focus on what it is that needs to be done in order to earn more money. The ladders or climbs we need to make to climb the tree to collect some of the fruit. Fancy methods, human pyramids. It all comes at a cost, especially when we don’t see the damage we are causing the roots and earth beneath it all. Out of sight out of mind, yet profoundly impactful for us all.

Perhaps the root of the desire for money is one of safety for self, to be reassured that it will all be okay in the future because right now I have money. It’s a false belief. How many times do we need to see others gain all the money in the world yet suffer the gaping hole in their heart all the same. How is it we have come to a place where we believe money will pay for all that we need or desire? Yet at the same time it can be seen that money never quite touches the soul. Never filling the void inside. Time and time again we seek to solve that internal pain or suffering with the external pleasures, drugs, cars, vacations, video games… All to discover that it’s just a temporary escape, a distraction.

How sick does the tree need to get before we take note of the conditions surrounding it?

I propose that in a world so focused on the fruit growing above, it’s those that tend to the earth and the roots below that will have the greatest impact. It’s those that look within themselves with an open curiosity that can see what’s really going on. Tend to the conditions within your control and allow the tree to do what it does best.
