High Sensitivity

Understanding the trait that might just be your greatest strength

Coaching for Highly Sensitive People (HSPs)

High Sensitivity, or being a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP), is a temperament trait found in around 20% of the population. It’s not a disorder or flaw. It simply means your nervous system is more finely tuned. You notice subtleties, process information deeply, and feel emotions more intensely than most.

If this sounds familiar, you might often:

  • Get easily overwhelmed by noise, chaos, or pressure

  • Need more time to recover after social situations

  • Feel deeply moved by beauty, music, or art

  • Struggle with criticism or conflict

  • Notice details others miss

Sound like you? You’re not alone.

Being a man and being highly sensitive can feel like a contradiction in today’s world.

From a young age, many of us are taught to “man up,” suppress emotion, and lead with logic, not feeling. But if you’re an HSP, that conditioning can leave you feeling disconnected, misunderstood, or even ashamed of the very traits that make you powerful.

Let’s be clear:

You can be sensitive and strong.

Empathic and assertive.

Deep-feeling and grounded.

Being a highly sensitive man isn’t a weakness. it’s a different kind of leadership. It means you’re tuned in, you care and you think before you act. You feel before you speak. And when you learn to trust that part of yourself, you stop trying to perform masculinity, and start living it with integrity.

What is High Sensitivity?

My Story as a HSP

I didn’t always know I was highly sensitive. For years I thought I was just “overthinking”. It wasn’t until I came across The Highly Sensitive Person by Dr. Elaine Aron that everything clicked. It gave me the language and understanding I’d been missing for years.

Being an HSP in a high-pressure role like the RAF had its challenges, but it also helped me realise how much we need sensitivity in leadership, in decision-making, and in our everyday lives. Sensitivity is not weakness. It’s awareness, empathy, and depth.

Healthy Masculinity & High Sensitivity

What does healthy masculinity look like?
  • Emotional awareness, not emotional suppression

  • Boundaries without aggression

  • Vulnerability without apology

  • Confidence that doesn’t rely on domination or ego

  • Living by your values, not societal expectations

As a former RAF engineer, I know what it’s like to exist in hyper-masculine environments where sensitivity isn’t celebrated. For years, I pushed parts of myself down just to fit the mould... until that mould broke. My divorce, personal growth, and discovery of the HSP trait changed everything.

Now, I coach others to reconnect with their truth, not by becoming someone else, but by owning who they already are.

Many HSPs feel like they’ve had to armour up to survive. Coaching offers a different path, one where we work together to:

Whether you’ve known you’re an HSP for years or just discovered the term, I’ll meet you where you are and help you move forward with confidence.
